Project #6 Modifications on a Theme via WOOD

This project will take you through experience on a number of hand and power wood tools.

We will be creating a life size STOOL that MUST hold your body weight for 15 minutes!

Research on-line and from the images below
Modify one stool that suits your fancy!

POWER TOOLS to be trained on:
Drill Saw
Band Saw
Jig Saw
Belt Sander
Chop Saw
Small Circular Saw
Electric Drill
Level

In your stool's design, you need to show your proficiency with the use of the above tools, incorporating the following:

  • a straight cut
  • a curved cut
  • a hole
  • a sanded area
  • a drilled area
  • making use of a level
  • two join types: i. glued & ii. drilled

Your embellishments should be thought provoking to create some sort of NATURE / CULTURE narrative.

Think of the narratives you created with
Project #5 > Apparatus for Sound
This is an opportunity to really dig deep and expand your ideas thoughtfully, and thoroughly.

This may be a mixed media project with the stool area being predominately wood.

Make use of these examples as your beginning point.
Copy the image(s) of your choice and modify the theme.
Sketch within your sketchbooks your transformation of the stool's evolution in 10 steps.

NOTE: I use this as an example for types of forms you can use.
However, note, that the two symmetrical forms have been
created through steam, bending the wood into shape.

You may have index cards to assist you.  You need to need to produce one slide presenting their back ground information and the following: Name Nationality birth/death date Style of their work / materials of their work Influences of the work they created Did they attend higher education, where? Are they affiliated with a gallery? Have they had museum exhibitions? Followed by two examples of the sculptor's work, either on one slide or in two separate slides.
